Westcoast Inspired Instrumental Music 2nd Place "Best Unsigned Local Act" (2011, 2012, 2013) Georgia Straight's BEST OF VANCOUVER issue
Vancouver-based band Sons of Granville formed in 2010 as a busking duo featuring energetic, improvisational performances on viola and guitar.
Sons of Granville made three consecutive podiums in Georgia Straight's annual Best of Vancouver issue with a signature instrumental style using acoustic instruments. Shades of classical romanticism and modern fusion blend with infectious world-beat rhythms and atmospheric soundscapes. The band features viola, guitar and cajon played with equal parts passion and poise.
In 2011 they released their self-titled album and made their first of three consecutive "Best of Vancouver" podium appearances as voted by the readers of Georgia Straight. The band added percussion while building a reputation for crazy street shows.
Through 2012 and 2013 the band was a staple of Vancouver's entertainment district as large crowds gathered to catch Sons of Granville's unbridled theatrics and share videos with their friends.
This excitement led to the band taking on more private engagements to go along with their public performances. They played at the 2013 & 2014 Vancouver Spring Show and the Squamish Music Festival. They also started to spend a lot more time in the recording studio. In 2014 Sons of Granville released the "Imperative Drive" LP as a farewell to their busking roots.
